Job Description
The Senior Bookkeeper provides comprehensive bookkeeping support for the organization, managing day-to-day financial transactions and ensuring the integrity of the general ledger. In this role, you’ll apply and deepen your expertise in GAAP, QuickBooks, Excel, and ERP systems to perform account reconciliations, month-end close tasks, and prepare financial reports. You will also assist with audit preparation, tax filings, and process improvements—mentoring junior staff and helping to maintain strong internal controls while supporting the finance team’s strategic objectives.
Duties/Expectations
- Record and post daily financial transactions in QuickBooks (or ERP), ensuring the integrity of the general ledger
- Perform monthly bank, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and intercompany reconciliations; investigate and resolve variances promptly
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes, prepare audit schedules, and coordinate with external auditors to support clean audit outcomes
- Generate P&L statements, balance sheets, cash-flow forecasts, and ad-hoc reports that inform executive decision-making
- Oversee payroll processing and ensure all federal, state, and local tax filings are accurate and submitted on schedule in compliance with GAAP
- Develop, document, and refine accounting policies and internal controls to mitigate risk and streamline workflows
- Mentor and supervise junior accounting staff, review their work for accuracy, and share best practices to foster professional growth
- Collaborate with the CEO and VP of Operations on budgeting, forecasting, and financial strategy to support the company’s growth objectives
Experience/Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field (or equivalent professional experience)
- 5+ years of progressive bookkeeping experience, including full-cycle accounting and month-end close
- Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks, Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/INDEX-MATCH), and ERP platforms
- In-depth understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and reconciliations (bank, AP/AR, intercompany)
- Proven ability to prepare P&L statements, balance sheets, cash-flow forecasts, and audit schedules
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with a meticulous attention to detail
- Demonstrated commitment to confidentiality, integrity, and data accuracy

Experience/Qualifications
Preferred Requirements
- Certified Bookkeeper (CB), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
- Experience supervising or mentoring junior accounting staff and reviewing their work
- Hands-on experience with payroll processing and multi-jurisdictional tax filings
- Prior involvement in audit preparation and coordination with external auditors
- Familiarity with budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning
- Exposure to ERP implementations or financial reporting automation tools
