Job Description

A Professional Survey Manager oversees the Surveying Team(s) assigned to them. This team is comprised of Survey Party Chief(s), Instrument Operator(s), Survey Field Crew(s) and Cad Technicians (for drafting) This person serves as a liaison between the clients and the principals within our organization and will also be responsible for making an effort to communicate the firm’s capabilities to potential clients. You will be responsible for maintaining service levels via proper project scheduling and staffing. Additionally, this person will be responsible for reviewing Survey Plans and the Billing for the same.

Duties/Expectations

  • Grow the Land Survey Department through identification of business opportunities, meeting with potential clients and maintaining professional networks for business development
  • Build project teams, coordinate, and monitor work involved with the tasks; and assure the scope of work is carried out in accordance with terms of the scope of the work agreement
  • Define and plan projects accurately within budget and scope
  • Prepare and review survey documents
  • Coordinate work between office staff, field survey personnel, and other required professionals
  • Provide weekly progress and status reports on project deliverables to the management team
  • Coordination and management of field crews including scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results
  • Design and implement survey policies by establishing standards and procedures; measuring results against standards; making necessary adjustments
  • Keep management informed by reviewing and analyzing survey team; recommends areas of improvement; identifying specific survey market needs and opportunities
  • Maintain survey staff by recruiting, selecting, and training employees
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
  • Achieve financial objectives by preparing an annual budget; proposing expenditures; initiating corrective actions
  • Contribute to team by accomplishing results as needed and participating in company team building events

Experience/Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • B.S. Surveying or equal
  • Excellent communicator; strong presentation skills
  • PLS/RLS License
  • Supervisory experience preferred (3 to 5 years)
  • Ability to Multi-Task

  • 10 years Field Experience
  • Professional References Required
  • Commitment to detail and production of survey projects

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong leadership skills, and ability to work in a team environment is imperative

Preferred Requirements

  •  Appears as expert witness in court in cases involving land or boundary disputes
  • Be willing to acquire multiple state licensing
  • Must be verse in Tribal Lands or begin the CFedS study courses
